A good Florida landscape is not just a row of palms and a strip of sod. It is grading that pushes water away from your foundation, plant choices that survive a Lake Mary July, irrigation tuned to the St. Johns River Water Management District’s watering schedule, and a tree canopy that does not drop limbs on your roof during the next tropical system. We build landscapes that hold up to all of it.

Deangelos Land Services has been the landscape contractor Lake Mary homeowners and HOAs call when they want one company to handle the whole property, from the soil up through the canopy. Mark DeAngelo, our owner, is an ISA Certified Arborist, which is rare in the landscaping industry and matters more in Central Florida than most people realize. Whether you are planning a full front-yard redesign, a backyard hardscape, or just need the beds re-mulched before the HOA inspection, we will walk the property with you, give you straight answers, and stand behind the work.

Why Landscaping in Central Florida Requires Local Expertise

A new sprinkler system installation watering a lush residential lawn.

Lake Mary sits in USDA Hardiness Zone 9b. That sounds friendly until you actually try to grow something here. We get hot, wet summers, dry winters, sandy soils on one lot and pure Florida clay on the next, a salt-tolerant breeze coming off the lakes, and oak canopies that block more sun than most plant tags account for. A landscaper from out of state, or a crew that only does mow-and-blow, will plant the wrong thing in the wrong spot and you will be ripping it out in two seasons.

Here is what we account for on every job in this market:

  • Sandy versus clay soils. Properties in Heathrow and Timacuan often have heavy clay pockets that hold water. Older neighborhoods around Greenwood Lakes have sandy soil that drains too fast. Both require soil amendment, and the plant list changes accordingly.
  • The oak canopy. Live oaks, laurel oaks, and the occasional mature magnolia create deep shade and a thick root mat. We pick shade-tolerant ground covers and avoid plants that fail under leaf drop.
  • HOA rules. Heathrow, Magnolia Plantation, Timacuan, Greenwood Lakes, Huntington, Markham Glen, and the rest of the master-planned communities each have their own ARB and plant lists. We design to the spec the first time so you are not rebuilding after a violation letter.
  • Hurricane season. Tree placement, root depth, and structural pruning all factor into whether your new oak ends up on your roof. As an ISA Certified Arborist, Mark plans for wind load on every design.
  • St. Johns River Water Management District restrictions. Year-round watering is limited to two days a week in most of Seminole County. We design irrigation zones and pick plants that thrive inside those limits, not against them.

A pretty plan that ignores any of these will fail. We see the cleanup jobs every week.

These are the ten landscape services we install and maintain across Lake Mary and Central Florida. Each one is overseen by an ISA Certified Arborist, and any of them can be bundled into a single design-build contract.

Landscape Design & Build

We design the entire property, then build it. Plant selection, grading, hardscape layout, irrigation zoning, and lighting all coordinated under one plan so the front yard does not fight the back. Lake Mary HOAs almost always require an approved plan on file before installation begins, and we draw to that standard. Learn more about landscape design and build →

Sod Installation

Fresh sod is the fastest way to take a yard from worn out to closing-day clean. We install St. Augustine (Floratam, ProVista, CitraBlue), Bahia, Zoysia, and Bermuda depending on the sun, soil, and traffic on your lot. In Lake Mary’s oak shade, the wrong cultivar will thin out in a single summer, so the choice matters. Learn more about sod installation →

Hardscaping

Paver patios, walkways, retaining walls, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, and pool decks. We use the bedding-sand and base-rock specs Central Florida soil actually needs, not the shortcut version that heaves after two rainy seasons. Learn more about hardscaping →

Mulching

Mulch is the cheapest thing you can do to make a yard look maintained, and the cheapest thing you can do wrong. We install pine bark, pine straw, cypress, hardwood, and rubber, pulled back off the trunk flare so we are not slowly killing your trees. Most Lake Mary HOAs want fresh mulch laid in spring and again before fall. Learn more about mulching services →

Sprinkler & Irrigation Installation

Full irrigation design, head replacement, controller upgrades, and rain-sensor installs that comply with Florida law and the St. Johns River Water Management District watering schedule. We zone the system to match your plant water needs so the lawn is not drowning the beds. Learn more about sprinkler installation →

Landscape Drainage

French drains, dry creek beds, channel drains, downspout extensions, swales, and re-grading. If you have a yard that ponds after every Lake Mary summer storm, or water tracking toward the foundation, this is the fix. Drainage is the single most overlooked piece of Central Florida landscaping. Learn more about landscape drainage →

Garden Bed Installation

New beds, expanded beds, and full bed re-builds with proper edging, weed barrier, soil amendment, and plant selection. We pick from the Florida-Friendly Landscaping plant list when it fits the design, which keeps your maintenance and water bills both down. Learn more about garden bed installation →

Hedge & Shrub Trimming

Viburnum, ligustrum, podocarpus, hibiscus, ixora, and every other Central Florida hedge has its own pruning window. We shape, raise, reduce, and rejuvenate hedges on a schedule that keeps them dense and flowering instead of leggy and brown in the middle. Learn more about hedge trimming →

Yard Cleanup

Storm cleanup, seasonal cleanup, HOA-violation cleanup, and post-construction cleanup. We haul everything off and leave the property camera-ready. Standard request after a tropical storm or before listing a home for sale. Learn more about yard cleanup →

Root Barrier Installation

When an oak or ficus root is heading for the pool deck, driveway, sewer line, or foundation, a root barrier installed by an ISA Certified Arborist is how you stop it without killing the tree. We dig the trench, install the barrier, and protect the structural roots so the tree stays healthy. Learn more about root barrier installation →

Most homeowners we meet have been quoted a number on a napkin by someone who never walked the property. That is not how we run a design. Here is the process we use on every full landscape project in Lake Mary.

1. Consult & Site Walk

We come out, walk the property with you, and listen. We look at sun exposure, drainage, soil, existing tree health, HOA constraints, your kids and pets, your maintenance appetite, and your budget. This visit is free and there is no obligation. Mark or one of our project managers will be there in person.

2. Design & Plant Selection

We draw the plan. Bed layouts, plant list with quantities and sizes, hardscape dimensions, irrigation zoning, and a phasing plan if you want to do it in stages. We share the plan with you, edit until it is right, and then submit it to your HOA’s ARB if one is required. Most Lake Mary communities need a plan on file before any work starts.

3. Install & Build

Our crew handles the install. Grading, drainage, hardscape, irrigation, planting, sod, and mulch, in the right order so we are not tearing up finished work. We coordinate with any other trades on site, pull permits when the City of Lake Mary or Seminole County require them, and keep the job site clean every day we are there.

4. Maintain & Grow

A new landscape needs the first year of care dialed in or you lose plants. We offer 30, 60, and 90-day check-ins and recurring maintenance plans so the warranty stays valid and the yard actually fills in the way the design promised. Our recurring landscape maintenance plans are launching this season for Lake Mary, Heathrow, and Sanford clients.

Why Choose Deangelos for Landscaping

Gloved hands planting through a cut opening in landscape fabric surrounded by smooth river rock
Hardscape and landscape work delivered under one contract.

There are a lot of guys with a truck and a trailer offering landscaping in Lake Mary. Here is what makes us a different conversation.

  • ISA Certified Arborist on every design. Mark DeAngelo carries the International Society of Arboriculture credential. Most landscape companies do not have one on staff, which means most landscape designs ignore tree health, root structure, and wind load. Ours do not.
  • Trees and landscape under one contract. We are one of the few Central Florida companies that does both full tree work and full landscape installation. That means we can take down the dead oak, grind the stump, regrade, install drainage, and have new sod and beds in within the same week, all on one invoice and one warranty.
  • Local since 2018. We are family-owned, based in Lake Mary, and our crews live in this market. We know which streets in Heathrow flood, which lots in Magnolia Plantation have clay, and which HOAs are strict about palm species.
  • 24/7 emergency response. If a storm drops a tree across your new patio at 11pm, you get a person on the phone, not a voicemail.
  • Free landscape design consultation. We do not charge to walk your yard, listen, and give you an honest read on what is worth doing and what is not.
  • 10% Veteran and Military Discount. Active duty, reserves, retirees, and veterans get 10% off their landscape contract. Bring any service ID.
  • Licensed and fully insured. Every job is covered. We carry workers’ comp, general liability, and the proper licenses for the work we perform.

Landscaping Services FAQ

How much does landscaping in Lake Mary cost?

It depends on the scope. A small front-yard refresh with new mulch, a few accent plants, and trimmed hedges might run a few hundred dollars. A full design-build with hardscape, irrigation, drainage, sod, and a planted bed layout for a typical Heathrow or Magnolia Plantation lot is more often in the $8,000 to $40,000 range. We give you a written estimate after the free site walk so you are not guessing.

When is the best time to install sod in Central Florida?

You can install sod year-round in Lake Mary, but spring (March through May) and fall (October through November) are easiest on the grass and easiest on your water bill. Summer installs work fine, they just need more irrigation. We avoid installing during the coldest week or two of January when nighttime lows can stress new St. Augustine.

Do I need a permit for landscape work in Lake Mary?

Most planting, mulching, sod, and hedge work does not require a permit. Hardscape over a certain square footage, retaining walls over a certain height, irrigation backflow installs, and any work that changes drainage or impervious surface in a way that affects neighbors usually does. We pull the City of Lake Mary or Seminole County permit for you when one is required.

What is the difference between landscape design and landscape installation?

Landscape design is the plan: drawings, plant lists, hardscape layout, irrigation zoning, and grading. Landscape installation is the build: the crew, the materials, and the equipment that turns the plan into your actual yard. We do both, which means the person who drew it is the person who built it, and any issue gets handled with one phone call to (386) 675-2303 instead of finger-pointing between two companies.

Do you offer landscape maintenance plans?

Yes. We offer monthly, quarterly, and seasonal landscape maintenance plans that include hedge trimming, bed weeding, mulch refresh, irrigation checks, and plant health inspections by our ISA Certified Arborist. Plans are sized to your property and HOA requirements. See our landscape maintenance plans page for details.

How long does a typical landscape install take?

A small refresh (mulch, a few plants, trim) usually takes one day. A mid-size install with new beds, sod, and basic hardscape runs three to five days. A full design-build with drainage, irrigation, large hardscape, planting, and sod can take two to four weeks, depending on permit timing and material lead times. We give you a written schedule before we start so you know what to expect.
